2008 Monterey Pinot Noir
This wine has a beautiful rosy-pomegranate color, and its sweet and savory bouquet is immediately enticing. Perfumes of rich plum, sweet basil, raspberries, and wild strawberries all make up the complex and varied nose of this exciting Pinot Noir. This is a great example of how Monterey Pinot Noir can shine with bright fruit flavor combined with a darker, deeper earthy minerality. Soft and silky, crushed raspberry comes through strongly, and the complex interplay between lighter and darker fruit flavors on the palate is delightful. Not to be confused with the heavier, leathery Pinots from other regions, this is a delicate Pinot with aroma and nuance that will continue to open and unfold as you sip. Its hint of earthiness balances perfectly with ripe berry and fruit, a result of picking the grapes at just the right time to preserve acidity. A last puff of creaminess and vanilla appears on the finish, rounding out the experience.
Several food pairing options are possible with a wine of this complexity and balance. Roasted pork loin with a fruit glaze would be an excellent meal pairing for a dinner party or family get-together, and this wine would work equally well with an arugula and goat cheese salad. For a mid-afternoon snack, a mélange of fruit, nuts, and a light cheese would whet anyone’s appetite. For an enlightened weeknight meal, try our Flock Pinot Noir with a simple margherita pizza with figs.
